Walt's Java Center
Ok, you're a developer, you've mastered dozens of languages written tons of software,
and yet, Java still seems to be a massive hurdle. Why? No one is making it clear
what mental process should be going through your head when you code. No one is
explaining the acronyms. No one is showing you how to get started for real. So
all you've got is a few unused Learn Java books on the shelf, some example code that
might as well be meaningless, and the opinion that Java is a bunch of crap meant
for wusses that are afraid of pointers and are willing to give up speed, power,
size, and slickness in the name of portability -- and that's failed.
If this sounds like you, you're at the right place.
Feed Up With Java
Start with this little bedtime story about
getting started with Java and its foreign concepts.
Synopsis: A developer trying to learn Java hits roadblock
after roadblock. Just as he gives up, his fairy godmother (a burly guy named
Ralph who took the job for better hours) helps in through the struggles of
applying his C++ and systems programming knowledge towards learning Java.
This is not your typical Java introduction where you're shown hello world as
an application, then an applet, and the whole library is presented. This is
the guts of what must have been running through people's mind when the
language was put together.
