How to Change the ROM in a Pro-Lite PL-M2014R

Step One

Unplug the unit and turn it face down.

Step Two

Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, gently unscrew the end screws counterclockwise and remove each side face plate.

Step Three

Slide the protective LED cover out.

Step Four

Gently press on the circuit board at the right end (non-power recepticle side) until you get the dual circuit boards to slightly come out the left end of the unit.

Step Five

Turn the unit over, and examine the back of the dual boards board.

Ground yourself for static discharge before removing the old chip. Using a screw driver, pop out the ROM (located between the Zilog Z80 CPU and the UMC 9744S chip).
[Locate the ROM] [Pry out the old ROM] [Pop in ROM]

Step Six

Ground yourself before playing withthe new chip. Straighten the pins on the new ROM, and insert it with the notch facing in the direction as the notch in the socket. It should seat in the socket with a slight pop.

Step Seven

Slide the protective plastic cover back on and screw the ends on again.

Step Eight

Plug in your unit and see if it works.
